Both Alex Choo of WPTextads and Simon Emery of OIOPublisher have been busy beavering away on their WordPress plugins that allow you to sell text ads directly.
Alex has launched version 1.2 which includes an API for developers. He has also mentioned that an affiliate program is in the pipeline.
Simon has also been very busy and has added a whole raft of features including support for PayPal subscriptions.
Both products essentially do the same job which allows you to sell advertising directly from your blog. The upside of this is that you are not paying a broker for selling the ad space on your behalf. The downside is that you limit your potential market to just your blog readers.
A good way to get the best of both worlds is to offer both, which is what I do. That way you are benefiting from the large advertiser base of companies such as TLA and capturing your local readership of potential advertisers.
