The continued GooglePurge is hitting the Webmaster orientated part of the internet hard. It seems clear that Google are punishing certain sites and blogs for not conforming to their guidelines. I have read many posts on the subject and whilst it is still all speculation there does seem to be a common theme. Inappropriate linking.
Here are a few of the posts I have recently read that seem to give good coverage and opinion on the subject.
If you’ve had your fill of PageRank talk then I’ll sum it up. Google seems to be going after sites for inappropriate linkings whether it be linking between a ‘network of sites’, selling paid links and not using a nofollow or javascript to negate the link in the eyes of the search engines and linking to bad sites.
TextAdSearch speculates
Until Google updates it’s 10 commandments everything is just speculation. I find this annoying to say the least as it means I cannot make an informed decision on which direction to take. Do I ignore the current epoch and hope things settle or do I make a radical change that I know will hurt. Whichever route I and other webmasters take things are going to remain in flux for a while yet.
No future for PageRank
One thing is clear and that is basing text link pricing on PageRank is not a sustainable model and there will certainly be a change in the text link market to reflect this. I predict the sale of text links will and should be based on quantity and quality of traffic.
