One of the big topics at the moment is about Google PageRank and text link sales. In a nutshell Google does not want you to sell or buy text links that will skew the search engine results. This means that if you buy or sell a text link for the purposes of improving search engine rankings then you may be penalised. Or you may not.
Google PageRank
Google PageRank is a part of Google’s box of tricks that allows it to decide how relevant a webpage is for a particular search term. In reality no-one except Google knows what PageRank represents and how it works.
Webmasters have placed a lot of credence in a sites PageRank as it is believed that a link from a High PR website means a valuable positive vote for your site. This in theory increases your own PageRank.
As a result the value of text link on a high PageRank site is greater than one on a lower PageRank site. This can be so even to the extent that a webmaster will not properly consider a sites niche or traffic levels.
Would you buy this link?
Consider the following which may be factual or speculative.
1. Google may devalue a paid link or even penalise the site selling links unless it uses the nofollow tag or some other method that does not pass on GoogleJuice.
2. The price of a text link is mainly decided on a sites PageRank. Even with 2 identical sites the one with the higher PR will command the higher price.
Now would you buy a text link if it used the nofollow tag?
If you did would you consider it of less value and pay less for it?
