Forum signature links

Have you ever considered sig links as a promotion method or to make a little extra from unused signatures? Sig links are the signature links found in discussion forums. Many forums allow you to add a limited amount of text to every post, this is usually referred to as your signature. Many webmasters use this to promote their sites.

If you are a frequent poster to a forum then you would have accumulated a number of posts, each of these posts can have a signature. The greater the number of posts, the greater the number of times your signature is likely to be viewed and clicked on.

Selling or buying sig links

There is a niche market for buying and selling sig links, particularly in webmaster related forums. Compared to other forms of text advertising this form of advertising is relatively unknown.

If you wanted to advertise using sig links you could use the only service I know of that brokers sig links is Sig Link. I have not used the service and there does not appear to be much of a market although they now have over 100 members.

Your alternative is to contact other forum members directly. As text sig links are relatively unknown they are quite a cheap form of advertising and can be quite targeted if you choose a forum related to your topic.

I have not used this form of advertising but I have found that using my own signature is good for branding and does get clicks especially if you are a frequent forum poster with useful posts.
