No doubt you have already heard about Blogrush. In its short life so far it seems to have saturated the blogosphere, everyone particularly ‘make money on the internet crowd’ seems to have installed the widget. It seems we are all sheep, including me, because we all want more traffic.
If you haven’t heard Blogrush is a blog widget that displays headlines from RSS feeds. The idea is you display other related blogs RSS feeds headlines and in return they display yours. There is of course more to it, the actual displays are exchanged for credits you earn by displaying the widget on your blog. What has gotten everyone excited is that it’s easy to setup and you also earn referral credit for recommending other bloggers to Blogrush, like I am doing.
It’s not all good
Whilst the idea behind recommending other related blogs such as bloggers do with their Blogroll there are some inherent problems, at least as I see it.
Only minor points that I hope we will see fixed soon. In the meantime I am curious to see how well it works. Bloggers have been reporting low CTR’s which is not surprising as most of the widgets are located in low click areas on blogs. The widget also looks too much like an ad, albiet a fancy one at that.
Conclusion
It’s easy to sign up and install the widget and requires no ongoing work with the promise of some traffic. Lots of bloggers have signed up for this reason. The only way you could improve on this is by setting up your own RSS exchange system with like minded bloggers. This would mean more targeted traffic with no middleman taking a cut. But it would mean lots of work to set it up which Blogrush does not require you to do.
